Dr. Ellis’ teaching career began at HSU in 1984. He joined the faculty of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1986, and then returned to HSU as part of the Logsdon faculty in 1996. Before teaching at these institutions, he served as the pastor of Forestburg Baptist Church in Forestburg, Texas

Dr. Ellis has published a biblical Hebrew Grammar and numerous articles for books, journals, and periodicals. He currently serves as the book review editor for the Review & Expositor and on the Dean’s Council of the Vocational Theological Education Council of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Dr. Ellis often serves as a preacher and Bible conference speaker and has been involved in several international ministry settings through theological education, church ministry, and theological dialogue, including Brazil, Romania, England, Nigeria, and China.
