BIBL 6311 Hebrew Scriptures
BIBL6311 Hebrew Scriptures is A broad survey of the Hebrew Scripture books, including selected introductory and critical issues, relevant background, major themes and divisions, and crucial problems. It will also include major textual critical approaches like Wellhausen. It will also touch on contemporary discussion like validity, historicity, and how to approach the text from an intersectional theological lens. Notes: Required of M.Div. and M.A. students.
This course provides an in-depth survey of the Old Testament writings, examining the major books, themes, critical issues, and interpretive approaches.
Students will:
- Examine the major books and themes of the Old Testament
- Discuss critical issues and interpretive approaches
- Study relevant historical and cultural backgrounds
- Analyze key texts and passages

Dr. Bob Ellis
Dr. Ellis’ teaching career began at HSU in 1984. He joined the faculty of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1986, and then returned to HSU as part of the Logsdon faculty in 1996.
